St. Michael Catholic Church
St. Michael Catholic Church, best known as the "Fisherman's Church" fascinates visitors by its unique cylindrical shape. The scalloped shell roof, a 2.5-ton alter quarried in the Holy Land, a bronzed crucifix hanging above it, appearing as if suspended in mid-air, and the stained glass windows depicting figures of the twelve apostles gathering in their catch, will leave you with an all inspiring feeling!
Ravaged by the two most powerful hurricanes to hit the Gulf of Mexico, Camille in August of 1969, and Katrina in August of 2005, the church structure has with stood 200 mile per hour winds and a 28-foot tidal surge. Tours Tuesday-Thursday Noon-3pm only, donations accepted.
