This exhibition addresses the aesthetic influences of both folk art and Modern art on African American artists in the 20th century. These objects, chosen from the Mississippi Museum of Art’s permanent collection, include a variety of media yet are centralized around the notion of identity and self-representation.

  • Description Meeting space for community clubs and organizations available! It is recommended that meetings be booked at least six weeks in advance. Donations are welcome, of course! The dining room can accommodate approximately 25 people and has a kitchen. The second room holds approximately 15. For a standing group, approximately 50-75 people at a time and there is also the front porch that will handle your special group meeting or event – weather permitting!
