Sedaka has penned more than 1,000 songs since beginning his career in 1957. He enjoyed enormous success with several hits, including “Stupid Cupid,” “Calendar Girl,” “Breaking Up is Hard to Do,” “Laughter in the Rain” and many more. He also wrote hit songs for musical icons like Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, The Monkees and The Carpenters.

Sedaka would later go on to help Captain and Tennille launch their careers with their version of his hit song “Love Will Keep Us Together.” Sedaka continued to write No. 1 hits throughout the years and was inducted into the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame in 1983.
