About

The 10-hour dance marathon begins at 1PM on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at the 100 Men Hall and ends at 11PM. Food by Chef Joe from Beachside for purchase and a cash/credit bar.

Four DJs will spin tunes to span all eras of the last 100 years of the 100 Men Hall starting with a longtime community favorite DJ Dennis Farve. A Bay Saint Louis musician and DJ, Dennis said he began DJing in fifth grade at St. Rose and currently DJs at Hollywood Casino. Read more HERE

DJ Farve will be followed by DJ OG (aka Jesse Loya). Jesse is a local musician, DJ and lover of the groove, who regularly spins vinyl at the Hall’s Thursday Lava Lounge and plays music all along the Gulf Coast. Jesse will be hitting the best of R&B to keep us grooving.

DJ Doug Funnie, owner of BSL's music and plant shop, Good Earth Records, will be spinning an all vinyl set of 70s-80s disco, rare groove, boogie & funk music. Originally from Houma, Louisiana, Doug has been DJing in New Orleans and all over the Gulf Coast for 10+ years from Lafayette to Ocean Springs and everywhere in between. Specializing in local funk music, a set from DJ Doug Funnie is sure to put you on the dance floor, keep you moving and grooving, and make you break a sweat! You never know what you're going to hear, but you are guaranteed to pass a good time when Doug is behind the turntables.

The marathon will close out with famed Gulf Coast DJ T Swan closes out the marathon with modern day club music. Tickets are $15 for a ten-hour dance extravaganza. The marathon will last for ten hours and there will be prizes for each DJ's 2.5 hour set, as well as overall prizes for best dancer(s) and longest time on the dance floor. There will also be food for purchase as well as a cash/credit bar.

Food for purchase by BEACHSIDE’s Chef Joe Castoro. Chef Joseph, a graduate of the Florida Culinary Institute, brought his skills to the tiki bar and grill at Bay Marina, which his parents own and where his famous burgers had a following. After many years as a chef in fine-dining restaurants in south Florida, Michelle [Beauregard] said that Chef Joe had always wanted to do something like Beachside (~Lisa Monti, The Shoofly Magazine)

Bay Saint Louis’ iconic 100 Men Hall concludes its year-long Centennial Year Celebration with its fourth and final event, Rise of the DJ/Disco Weekend, June 16-18, 2023. Tickets are $15 for entry - there will be food for purchase and a cash/credit bar.

The eclectic, three-day event will include a tribute to Donna Summer by Anais St. John, a 10-hour dance marathon with prizes featuring four DJs (DJs Dennis Farve, Jesse Loya, Doug Page, and T. Swan), an outdoor concert free to the community, the unveiling of an 80 x 58” painting commemorating the Rise of the DJ/Disco by John Barnes, and a commemorative, letterpress poster created by Kennedy Prints.

Juneteenth’s Weekend, says Dangermond, will continue to educate the general public about an important era in the 100 Men Hall’s history, the late 70s and early 80s saw a change in music as well as the ownership of the Hall. Dangermond says, “It was the first time the Hall pass from Black to white hands, and it had to do with the passage of the Civil Rights Act as much as a change in music as Disco caused a stir across the country and the way music was consumed by DJs instead of live bands.” Read more about Dangermond's writing on the Rise of the DJ HERE

Every event presented throughout the Centennial Year Celebration honors the Hall’s culturally rich history and upholds its current mission of educating Mississippi Gulf Coast residents and visitors about the venue’s significant contributions throughout its first hundred years.

The year-long celebration is made possible in part by a grant from the MS Coast National Heritage Area. The Silver Slipper Casino and Hotel has generously matched the Heritage Area grant for this weekend’s program.
