Cocktail of the Mississippi Coast: residents taste-test handcrafted drinks
BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (WLOX) -
The Mississippi Coast is getting an official cocktail.
Thursday at the Blind Tiger in Bay St. Louis, taste-testers got one last opportunity to try the drinks in one location. It was the last of three stops in South Mississippi where people could pay a small fee to try each hand-crafted beverage.
Culinary experts from the three coastal counties submitted recipes for the contest. Then, a panel of judges from outside our area tested the drinks. The four finalists up for the title are all created by bartenders on the Coast: Pelican Punch (Debbie Davis; The Sycamore House in Bay St. Louis), A Tale Between Two Bridges (Jessy Gazaway; Patio 44 in Biloxi), Paradise Punch (William Hennis; Murky Waters BBQ & Blues in Ocean Springs), Cat Island Cruiser (Catherine Ryan; Bacchus on the Beach in Pass Christian).
Visit Mississippi Gulf Coast teamed up with Eat Mississippi and Rougaroux Rum for the contest. Organizers are looking for a laid-back drink that pairs well with a beautiful sunset.
To try making these drinks at home, or to cast a vote. There will be a launch party for the winner in May.
