The Gulf Islands National Seashore actually encompasses coastal lands in both Mississippi and Florida, but it’s the barrier islands of Mississippi, only accessible by boat, that have become known for their beauty. Swimming, biking, fishing, snorkeling, hiking and camping are all popular activities, but you can also tour a historic Fort Massachusetts on West Ship Island. Stick to the mainland’s Davis Bayou Area for park ranger programs and wildlife spotting.
