Waveland Beach in Mississippi
Drive time: 1 hour
The Mississippi Gulf Coast boasts a stretch of dog-friendly beaches, particularly along the shoreline of Hancock County. Hancock welcomes dogs on their beaches from Waveland to Bay St. Louis (pictured), where pups can splash around in the typically uncrowded surf.
Drive about an hour east from New Orleans into Mississippi to reach Waveland Beach.
Hungry after splashing in the waves? Stop for a bite to eat in Bay St. Louis before heading home.
The Blind Tiger in Bay St. Louis, about a 12 minute drive from Waveland Beach, encourages diners to sit on the front patio with their dogs. The cafe is located at 119 N Beach Blvd.
If you get to town early enough, Mockingbird Cafe (110 S. 2nd St.) serves a hearty breakfast -- along with a full lunch and dinner menu -- and welcomes dogs to their shady outdoor patio.
