Arts & History

While visiting Coastal Mississippi, just a stroll through town can turn into a full-fledged art walk. You might stumble upon a famous artist’s gallery or come across a hand done mosaic on a stone wall by the shoreline. Art is everywhere on the Coast – and it comes in plenty of forms. In fact, if you’ve been looking for your muse, you may just find her here.

Homegrown artists whose names you might recognize include Richmond Barthe, Dusti BongeWalter Anderson and George Ohr, to name a few. Their work is on display in our museums for every type of art-lover.

If you’re more of a history buff (or want to be one), visit the Maritime & Seafood Industry Museum, where the Coast’s maritime history and heritage are brought to life. Or stop by Beauvoir, home of Jefferson Davis, the last president of the Confederate States of America.

Other great museums where you can do a little discovering include the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center (a nationally recognized children’s museum), INFINITY Science Center (a stellar interstellar time) and Mary C O'Keefe Cultural Center of Arts & Education (a free admission museum providing exhibitions and events of the visual, performing and culinary arts).
