Overview

The Mississippi Vietnam Veterans Memorial is a beautiful black granite memorial built in 1996. The memorial is a tribute to the men and women who served in the Vietnam War. Two black granite walls face each other, with the names of the 668 Mississippians killed in the war engraved, and photographic images of many of the GIS listed are laser-etched into the granite. Limestone and concrete walls surround the memorial, and a protective coating preserves the images.

The main mast of the USS Mississippi CGN-40 also rests on the Memorial Site. The Mississippi Vietnam Veterans Memorial Committee provided a supporting base for the main mast.

WWII/USS Tullibee Memorial - The Submarine Veterans of WWII assigned each of the 52 Submarines lost during WWII to a State, with Mississippi honored with the USS Tullibee (SS-284). The monument tells the story of the Tullibee, lists crew members, honors the 41 for Freedom Boomers and The Submariner’s Prayer.

The Memorial Site is located on U.S. Highway 90 East (also known as Bienville Blvd) on the grounds of the Ocean Springs Civic Center.
