Overview:
Designed by world-renowned golf course architect Donald Ross, and built in 1908 by Charles Nieman, a prominent New Orleans architect, The Great Southern Golf Course is the birthplace of golf in Mississippi.
Originally a nine-hole course built to accommodate tourists staying at the Great Southern Hotel, the course became known nationwide, attracting such golfing greats as Bobby Jones, Frances Ouimet, Walter Hagen, Gene Sarazen, Henry Cotton, Jock Hutchinson, Collette Vare’ and Babe Didrickson Zaharias. The 18-hole course features 6,236 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 67 and it has a slope rating of 114.
