Overview:

The Mississippi Blues Trail, formed by the Mississippi Blues Commission in 2003, is dedicated to preserving the state’s musical heritage through more than 100 historical markers and interpretive sites throughout Missisissippi. Here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, the American Blues Network (ABN) is on the Mississippi Blues Trail!

The marker pays tribute to the American Blues Network, which has taken Mississippi and the rest of the nation by storm. This is the first blues trail marker to reach the Mississippi Gulf Coast, an area that once frequently traveled as the chittlin’ circuit.

Blues radio took off in the post-World War II era with the arrival of rhythm & blues programming. A new era for blues radio began in 2000, with the launch of the American Blues Network (ABN). Using satellite and internet technology, ABN provides a mix of modern and vintage blues to listeners around the world. The nationally syndicated radio program delivers via satellite and the web a 24-hour blues format, "credited for keeping the blues alive!"

The Mississippi Blues Trail captures a distinct part of our culture and attracts fans world-wide who want to come and experience the authentic Mississippi Blues! The Mississippi Gulf Coast is very excited to be included on the Mississippi Blues Trail! This project honors and highlights every aspect of one of America's greatest treasures, from the birthplace in the Delta to the many contributions all around the state.
