Mississippi Gulf Coast Celebrates AirTran Airways

Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport celebrates AirTran Airways’ fifth anniversary serving the Mississippi Gulf Coast Tuesday, March 16 at 9:30 am on the 2nd floor of the airport’s terminal building.

The reception is an opportunity for dignitaries and business and community leaders to formally highlight AirTran Airways’ contribution to passenger growth at the Airport and recognize five years of air service.

“AirTran Airways directly contributes 20,000 passengers per month to the Airport. We would like to recognize the Grand Casinos and Beau Rivage for their partnership with AirTran Airways and for continuing to make the service possible”, said Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport Executive Director Bruce Frallic.

Since AirTran Airways first flew out of Gulfport-Biloxi International in March, 1999, Gulfport-Biloxi passengers has grown 120% in five years.  AirTran Airways now connects to 45 cities, up from 30 cities since AirTran Airways’ first day in the Gulfport-Biloxi market, and provides non-stop service to Atlanta, Tampa and Ft. Lauderdale from Gulfport-Biloxi.

“We attribute our continued success in the Gulfport-Biloxi market to the extraordinary partnership with Beau Rivage Resort and Grand Casinos,” explained Kevin Healy, AirTran Airways.

“They have taken a leadership role in drawing more tourists to the Mississippi Gulf Coast and I look forward to a long and prosperous relationship.”

AirTran Airways accounts for 30% of Gulfport-Biloxi’s passengers.  Average air fares remain 30% lower than previous fares.  They are the leading low fare carrier nationwide with the most modern jet fleet.  AirTran Airways uses the Boeing 717 and soon will be using the Boeing 737-700.
