Bruce Davenport Jr: I See You Looking Exhibit

Bruce Davenport, Jr. is a self-taught artist who strives to preserve New Orleans culture. He was born in New Orleans and grew up in the Lafitte Housing Projects in the 6th Ward Treme neighborhood. Davenport's hand-colored drawings of the Mardi Gras parade bands include fine points, such as the exact number of marchers, detailed uniforms and the instruments played by each band member. The artist's use of ink and colored markers to create neat rows of colorful figures captures the rhythm and dynamics of the bands. His themes also include scenes of his experiences in the Lafitte Projects and penitentiary life, where he visited as a child. Davenport's work has been exhibited in New York, Tokyo and New Orleans and is in public and private collections, including the New Orleans Museum of Art and the Benetton Group.

The Transylvanian Clockworks

October 17-25

The author of Ravenscroft investigates the Dracula myth in a powerful, complex, darkly funny and utterly terrifying vampire play unlike any you have ever experienced. Set in London and Transylvania in 1888 the year of Jack the Ripper, it captures the erotic power and poetry of Stoker's novel while looking more deeply into the characters' souls to examine the sensual and frightening undercurrents of this captivating Victorian tale. Jonathan Harker has returned from Transylvania so profoundly disturbed that he is confined to Dr. Seward's mental hospital and Van Helsing has been called in to help unravel the mystery of Jonathan's dementia. Jonathan's version of events at Castle Dracula leads them into a horrifying nightmare involving the mysterious foreign gentleman who seems to be seducing the women in Jonathan's life. A complex labyrinth of fear, desire, violence, and lurking evil spirals into a horrific and surprising conclusion. The Transylvania Clockworks is an elegant, original, subtle, poetic and exhilarating piece of Gothic theatre.

The Addams Family Musical

October 24 - October 26

The Addam's Family is a smash-hit musical comedy that brings the darkly delirious world of Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, Grandma, Wednesday, Pugsley and, of course, Lurch to spooky and spectacular life. This magnificently macabre new musical comedy is created by Jersey Boys authors Marshall Brickman & Rick Elice, and Drama Desk-winning composer/lyricist Andrew Lippa (The Wild Party).

The Addams Family features an original story, and it's every father's nightmare. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family. A man her parents have never met. And if that weren't upsetting enough, she confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he's never done before - keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday's "normal" boyfriend and his parents.

Please welcome the Jordan River Band from Poplarville, Mississippi. In the traditional sense, these musical groups represent a truly American institution, dating back to the earliest decades of American history. This is especially true for the various groups of musicians in Southern Mississippi. The Jordan River Band represents such an association of singers, pickers, and sometime songwriters who gather together for the sheer enjoyment of keeping this American tradition alive.

5 PM: Exhibiting Artist: Judy Lee

Judy Lee has been working in clay for over 30 years. Much of her current work consists of ceramic functional and sculptural pieces to produce masks, wall hangings, contemporary sculpture and large lidded vessels. While participating in the juried show in Fairhope, AL, she was approached by a retired funeral director asking if she ever considered marketing her work to funeral homes to use as cremation urns. This started a new direction for her and she now makes custom vessels for over 12 funeral homes in Mississippi and Louisiana, as well as an internet supplier in Colorado.

June Ward: Passages and Possibilities

Gulfport, Mississippi artist June Ward is inspired by beauty and color. After studying drawing and art history at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas, she continued with other learning venues and private instruction, exploring forms of creative expression. In 2009, Ward was juried into membership of Oil Painters of America and is a member of Women Painters of the Southeast. She serves as a Regional Director for The National Museum for Women in the Arts in Washington, DC. Passages and Possibilities follows Ward's passages through life as she searched for her artistic voice, open to all possibilities. Her art follows the cycle of the seasons in still life, landscape and figurative works. Flowers in her still life paintings show the natural progression of time with blooms at their peak, fading flowers and seeds signifying the repeating cycle. Her landscapes, which often include figurative elements, speak of the passage of time in different geographical locations. The overriding theme throughout all these categories is the emphasis of light, in an intimate setting accented with Ward's hand painted furniture.
