Friday, February 24 -Vicki Rosetti-Applewhite to discuss with us, "Addressing Homelessness: Considering Collaborative Approaches". Vicki is a retired media executive, entrepreneur, local business owner, volunteer, and tireless advocate for so many things in our community! Please come and join the discussion as we think outside the box and really talk about homelessness in our Gulf Coast communities and how we can ensure that the homeless members of our community are not pushed aside or dismissed.
In her words: - "Homelessness continues to be a source of public debate, short-sighted decisions, inspiring efforts, and countless news stories, but few permanent solutions have emerged. Many organizations do their part to fulfill needs of families and individuals who, for whatever reason, have hit a rough patch that renders them without permanent housing. But, most stop short when a person is in need of a permanent address to be safe, clean, secure, and have basic needs met as a foundation of starting life – again. This discussion, rather than presentation, will seek to bridge the gap between existing programs, temporary help and sustainable solutions.
Homelessness is a frequent topic in the news, and has been for some time. It is a complex issue, and one that requires a holistic, human approach."
Each Friday, Gulf Coast Community Design Studio hosts "Friday Morning Serial" a free, weekly public event which brings a different speaker and topic to the attendees through a 10-15 minute presentation. The majority of the morning is spent as group discussion. Community members, government officials, artists, scientists, professionals, students, and designers make up just some of the variety of attendees.
