Tentative 2017 Dates
The Flagship Festival combines several events into one. Festivities will begin with the American Heart Association's Jackson County Heart Walk, which will begin at 8:30am May 21.
The Coastal Conservation Association's Kids' Fishing Rodeo at 9am. Children ranging from ages 5–13 can enjoy a morning of fishing and education regarding the Pascagoula River. The CCA will give away fishing poles, t-shirts, life jackets and goody bags to the first 200 children to arrive and provide for fishing.
For those itching to get out on the water, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College will be renting kayaks all day for community enjoyments. McCoy's River Tours will also offer boat tours of the river at 10am and 2pm.
The Blessing of the Fleet begins at 4pm and is open to all motorized boat sizes and types. Boats must be in Krebs Lake by 3pm. Winners for the best decorated boat will be chosen for each category and signs should be displayed for any unnamed boats that either give a distinguishing name or theme title.
The Paddlepalooza twilight paddle will begin at 7:45pm and will showcase the lower Pascagoula River Blueway. Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College will have a limiited number of kayaks available for rent for the Twilight Paddle and participants should be on the water and ready to go at 7pm. There will be a safety talk at 6:45pm and prayer before departure.
Live music will begin at 1pm with music provided by the Yazoo Bayou Band, Madi Cooper and Jake Thibodeaux and The Echo.
Sunday, the festival continues with the Right2Ride Bike Ride and Race. According to organizers, the mission of this event is to create safer roads for all by educating the community that cyclists have the right to ride on the road and that cyclists should be able to ride with the flow of traffic. Participants will be guaranteed a T-shirt and "swag" bag if they register by May 13.
The entry fee is $25 for the 8-mile ride. The entry fee is $40 for the 40-mile race, which includes a "swag" bag, T-shirt and lunch. Additional lunches are $8 per plate and you must be 16 years or older to participate in the 40 mile race. Race categories include Male 16-40, Male 41+, Female 16-40, & Female 41+. Awards provided for top 3 in each age category for the 40 mile race.
