While visiting the Coast, sampling the cuisine of the Gulf Coast is a big part of the fun! From casual beach-view restaurants to elegant dining rooms that offer haute-cuisine, Mississippi’s Gulf Coast can provide an array of culinary experiences to suite every taste.
The Coast is famous for seafood, but that’s only part of our specialties. We’ve included spicy Cajun dishes and international creations on our menus. Your table is waiting; come and taste the Coast.
Whether oysters on the half shell and a cold beer on a warm summer day, or a steaming bowl of fresh gumbo on a breezy fall evening, the food of this region is like no other in the country.
Cajun and Creole influence can be found in restaurants all along the Coast. The main ingredient, of course, is the abundance of fresh seafood brought to the port each day. Shrimp, snapper, tune, grouper and flounder. Have them broiled, fried, blackened, sautéed and raw. Just about anything a hungry visitor wants can be found here. More favorites include crawfish; also know as “mudbugs”, jambalaya and etoufee. And since this is the South, large helpings of grits, fresh vegetables, hush puppies and biscuits are always on the menu.
Hundreds of restaurants line the Gulf Coast, from small out-of-the-way local haunts to variety laden buffets of the Coast casinos. Seafood to steaks, romantic atmospheres to family settings, Italian pasta to Japanese sushi. Visitors to the Coast need to come with a hearty appetite, an adventurous spirit and enough time to sample all there is.
The South has always been synonymous with sumptuous cuisine. The Mississippi Gulf Coast takes that reputation and raises it to even greater culinary heights.
