Gulfport Dragway is located @ exit 31 off Interstate 10! Go south on Canal Road, cross over the railroad tracks go about 1 mile, turn left onto Racetrack Road, continue to Gulfport Dragway! Gates open @ 6pm and eliminations are held around 9pm!

South Mississippi Speedway is a semi-banked oval clay one-quarter mile dirt track offering live stock car racing every Saturday night! The Speedway is home to racers such as Stinger, Pure Stock, Street Stock, and UMP Modified. The track is host to many sporting events such as MS State Championship Challenge Series, Cajun Sprinters, UMP MS Modified Series, SMS Gulf Coast 100, and The Frost Bite 50!  Come out & get "your motor running!"

The track is conveniently located off Interstate 10 @ Exit 24 then 0.2 mile north on Menge Avenue.

“The house at Oldfields had high ceilings with white plastered walls. Bob’s eyes lit up whenever he contemplated the murals that could adorn those walls. Ideas raced in his head. Daddy was adamant, declaring, “That crazy artist will never pollute the Oldfields walls!”

So begins a passage in Approaching the Magic Hour, the memoir Agnes Grinstead Anderson wrote about life with her husband Walter, called Bob by his family. In the 1940’s Walter and Sissy lived with her father in the Grinstead home in Gautier; despite this seemingly final edict from his father-in-law, Anderson devised a plan to make these murals a reality.

Upon the blank canvas of the home’s walls, he affixed large sheets of paper, which he had covered with watercolors depicting a myriad of subjects, from farm scenes to people working and playing, to New Orleans street scenes, to illustrations of angels inspired by Milton’s Paradise Lost. The panels included were selected “to try to give people the feel of these lost murals.” While space limitations prevent displaying the murals in their entirety, “it is possible ... to get some idea of what these murals looked like.”  Guest curator - John G. Attention to Detail highlights the work of contemporary clay artists Lorna Meaden and Lana Wilson. Both artists take a meticulous approach to the surface decoration of their clay vessels. Lorna Meaden focuses on wheel thrown utilitarian objects with rich ornamentation and patterning.

Lana Wilson, known for her workshops at ceramic centers and museums, has a similar interest in creating complicated and usual surfaces on her utilitarian hand-built ceramics. She creates a variety of detailed patterns and textures using stamps and tools! Curator: Brian Nettles!

Week-long summer camps for children ages 5-12 years of age offering music, art, dance, swimming, skating, bowling, field trips, puppet shows, computer classes and more! Sponsored by the Moss Point Parks & Recreation Department!

Sea Camp, a popular marine science day camp for children 6-13 years of age offers campers experience & discovery through hands-on activities and live animal encounters in both the classroom and field! All students have the opportunity to crab, fish, seine, and sieve.

Field trips also take participants into beach and salt marsh habitats. Children of all ages visit Deer Island aboard the R/V Sea Explorer. Additionally, camper’s ages 8-13 get to spend a day at Ship Island! Students aged 12-13 will have an added adventure, kayaking through the maritime forests of Bayou Heron and exploring Indian middens and salt pannes of near-shore islands at Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Moss Point!

Sea Camp registration requires a $25.00 non-refundable deposit with the balance due no later than May 15, 2009!  Registration Required – Limited spaces available!

Four cooking camps for children ages 9 14! Different camps offered…“Baking Boot Camp,” “Oodles of Noodles,” “Snack Attack,” & “Icing Adventures!” Children will thrill their friends & family with what they learn! Mud Daubers Camp consists of seven one-week camp sessions for children aged 6 -12 years old interested in learning about and participating in various art forms!  Divided into sessions approximately 1-1/2 hours long with several breaks, including some free time for all participants! Week long tennis camps for children ages 6-16 years! Minimum three hour tennis instruction daily, match competitions, and other fun activities – soccer, swimming, bowling, badminton, camp T-shirts, & prices! Call for complete details!

The museum offers 3 weeks of full-day camp for ages 6-11 from 9am-3pm daily (June 8-12), (June 15-19), (June 22-26) and a half-day Kindercamp for ages 3-5 from 9am-12:30 pm daily (July 6-10), (July 13-17). This year’s theme, “Make your Mark,” inspired by Walter’s art and writings that have made such a significant impact on our community. Campers explore through various projects and medias the many ways in which they too can foster their creativity and “Make your Mark!”  Check with the museum on specifics!

One of the greatest thrills is learning English riding! We offer riding lessons for children ages 5-12 years! Wildwood Farm is a friendly, down to earth center, where lessons are safe, progressive and interesting! Participants learn different techinques by qualified instructors!

Lessons for complete beginners up to quite advanced - we cater for all levels! Included in registration is a Wildwood Farm Summer Riding Camp T-Shirt! After camp day care is available on an hourly charge!

“Gentlemen, Start Your Engines!” are the first sounds you will hear at the Gulf Coast Motor Sports Park! Kart competition is a sport that is fun & enjoyable for the entire family!

Gulf Coast Motor Sports Park hosts an average of 100 entries participating in twenty-five 2- and 4-cycle classes per event; roaring around the 1/8 of a mile high-banked lighted dirt track! The track boast a long backstretch, a wide turn 3 & 4 with a tri-oval front stretch, and wide turn 1 but a tight turn 2!

The “go-kart” phenomenon began in the late 1950's as a fun and affordable hobby and has now spread around the world! Come watch as “up-and-coming Nascar Drivers” zoom their way to victory!

Directions: From I-10, take Hwy 49 North, turn left On to Hwy 53 North, go approximately 7 miles to Loren Cuevas Rd, Take left go 1,000 feet track on right!

THURSDAYS

Six-week class designed for the student who has little or no experience with belly dance, this session includes instruction on correct posture and a breakdown of many belly dance movements. Every first time student receives a free personalized belly dance journal to keep all notes and weekly handouts. Topics include a history of belly dance, Arabic words heard in popular songs, famous belly dancers, and more! You will also learn a short choreography to a popular Middle Eastern song and be belly dancing right away! Must be 18 or older!

On July 4, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Continental Congress as an official way to declare the United States’ independence from Great Britain! Every year the United States celebrates that independence with parades, festivals, barbecues, fireworks & picnics!

The Mississippi Gulf Coast celebrates all along the coast with fireworks celebrating this holiday!
